AUBURN, Ala. - Western Carolina soccer (2-2) dropped a 3-0 decision at Auburn (4-1) Sunday at the AU Soccer Complex.
The Tigers pushed all three of their goals into the net in the first half of the match. Senior Catamount goalkeeper Caitlin Williams fended off 33 shots by Auburn, saving 10 shots, and allowing the three AU goals. It is Williams' second loss of the season, after Western Carolina lost 3-2 to UAB on Friday.
Western Carolina had just four shots in the match, its lowest shot output of the season. Catamounts' Laura Greb, Kayla Sedgeley, Katie Weigel and Alex Gastesi all had shots on goal in the match.
Auburn scored its first goal at the 17:03 mark when Ashley Marks hit a cross from the end line off an assist by Mary Coffred. Three minutes latter, at 20:48, the Tigers Katy Frierson scored off a double assist by Gabi Rivera and Jessica Rightmer. The final Tiger score of the match happened just before the half, at 43:34, when Ashley Kotero hit a free shot from 35-yards out from an assist by Heather Havron.
Western Carolina plays its first home matches of the season, hosting the Catamount Classic. The Catamounts play Air Force at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Xavier at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
