GREENVILLE, S.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball (6-19-4-12 SoCon) fell to Furman (11-14, 7-9 SoCon) 65-49 Saturday in Timmons Arena.

Junior forward Caitlin Hollifield was the only Catamount to score in double figures with 11 points. It is the first time Furman has gotten a win over Western Carolina since 2004.

The Catamounts shot just 19.4 percent in the first half and had 17 points. In contrast, Furman ended the first half with 33 points and shot a toasty 45.5 percent from the field. Western Carolina picked it up a bit in the second half, tying Furman with 32 points in the final 20 minutes and had 12 field goals to Furman's eight in the second half.

Western Carolina hit just one three pointer in the contest while Furman connected on five. Both teams had 18 field goals in the contest but the tale of the game was at the free throw line where Furman was 24-of-32.

The Catamounts did outscore Furman in the pain 26 to 22 and also got 16 points off second chance points. Furman out-rebounded Western Carolina 49-36.

Furman opened the game with a three pointer by Kaitlin Murphy and the Paladins led from the opening bucket to the last buzzer. Murphy led Furman with 15 points.

The Catamounts return home Monday to host Georgia Southern. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. in the Ramsey Center.
