The Western Carolina tennis team fell to Chattanooga 6-1 today in its first Southern Conference match of the season. The match was forced indoors to the Hixson Racquet Club due to rain.
Being a person down, the Catamounts had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match and the No. 6 singles match.
Already down a match, the Lady Mocs defeated the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams by scores of 8-5 to pick up the doubles point.
At the No. 2 spot, Carolina Lainez picked up the lone point for the Catamounts defeating Alex Flynn 7-5, 6-2. Lainez has now won two of her last three matches.
Jenna Nurik narrowly slipped by Izabella Glinska at No. 1. After dropping the first set, the junior picked up the second set 7-5. Glinska then fell in the tiebreak set 10-6.
Emily Hangstefer and Shaina Singh downed Iglesias Díaz and Karen Jiménez by scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-2, respectively.
The Catamounts will look to rebound Sunday in their second SoCon match of the season in Birmingham against Samford at 11 a.m.
