Western Carolina's women's tennis team was defeated by Samford, 7-0, Thursday afternoon. The Catamounts fell to 1-11, 0-4 SoCon while the Bulldogs improve to 10-4, 2-3 SoCon. Rain stopped play for an hour before players were able to return to the courts.

In the No. 3 match of singles play, junior Karen Jiménez fell to Samford's Rebecca Kirven. After being defeated 1-6 in the first set, Jiménez battled Kirven in the second set before falling 4-6. Samford's Janse Van Rensburg defeated Ainhoa Iglesias Díaz (6-1, 6-0) in the No. 1 spot while Kristin Lewis topped WCU's Megan McLinden 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 match. WCU's No. 4 through No. 6 singles were blanked 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, all three Catamount pairs were defeated by the same score, 1-8. Western Carolina returns to action at home this Saturday against UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m.
