Western Carolina's women's tennis team fell to rival Appalachian State, 5-0, in a rain-shortened match in Boone. The Catamounts are now 1-12, 0-5 SoCon while the Mountaineers improved to 10-7, 3-3 SoCon.

With no No. 3 doubles team, WCU fell in the doubles competition, 0-2. In the No. 1 match, Ellie Linsell and Jennifer Ansari defeated Ainhoa Iglesias Díaz/Megan McLinden by a score of 8-2. The No. 2 team did not fare much better, falling 8-1 to Gisela Fernandez and Gabriela Celi.

In singles play, only four matches were finished before rain started to fall in Boone. Gisela Fernandez of ASU won the No. 6 match by a forfeit. Karen Jiménez was forced to retire from her No. 3 match, down 4-1 when she retired. Sarah Walters and Taylor Casey were both blanked in the No. 4 and No. 5 match. Both Ainhoa Iglesias Díaz and Megan McLinden were both down in their matches when the rain started.

The Catamounts continue their two-match road swing traveling to Boiling Springs, N.C. tomorrow to take on the Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
