Western Carolina’s women’s tennis team fell, 7-0, to Furman Friday afternoon on WCU’s “Think Pink” tennis match in the first of three home matches for Western Carolina. The Catamounts fall to 1-14 on the season and 0-8 in Southern Conference play while the Paladins improve to 12-9 and 7-2 in conference play.
The “Think Pink” match was sponsored by the WCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The Catamount tennis team wore pink wristbands in an initiative to raise awareness for breast cancer. SAAC will be on-site Saturday to sell pink t-shirts as part of its cancer fundraiser.
In doubles play, the No. 1 doubles duo of Ainhoa Iglesias Díaz and Megan McLinden lost to Margaret Boyette and Kelly Sullivan, 8-4. In the No. 2 match, Karen Jiménez and Katie Barry were defeated, 8-1.
All five Catamounts lost in their singles matches.
The Catamounts return to action Saturday at home with the match set to begin at 11:00 a.m. against Wofford. Saturday will be Senior Day as Western Carolina honors its two seniors, Ainhoa Iglesias Díaz and Katie Barry.
