CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Western Carolina softball (16-28, 3-1 Southern Conference) was swept by Chattanooga (26-13, 10-2 SoCon) 4-1, 10-2 Saturday at Frost Stadium.

Foster had three hits in the doubleheader, including a homerun in the second game. She now has 14 homeruns in the season and continues to lead the Southern Conference. She has 52 hits this season, which is good for second place in the Southern Conference and also puts her in ninth place for hits in a season in the Catamount record books.

Western Carolina gave up two runs in first and lone runs in the second and fourth, as Chattanooga took the first game 4-1.

Starting Catamount pitcher Katie King had a solid outing for WCU, giving up four runs on nine hits and struck out three. With the three strikeouts, King now has 273 in her career, moving her to second place in the Catamount record books. King also held the Lady Mocs' top four hitters to 1-for-10.

Western Carolina got its only run in the game in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Shemekia Scotton was hit by a pitch, and Haley Pace drew a walk, to put runners on first and second. Freshman catcher Heather Chastain laced a shot past the short stop to score Scotton.

Foster had two of the Catamounts seven hits in the game. King falls to 4-7 on the season.

Game 2

Erin Foster gave Western Carolina an early 1-0 lead in the second game, hitting in the second spot in the line-up. Foster hit a monster shot over the right center wall for her 14th homerun of the season.

Freshman pitcher Jordan Garrett had a shaky start in the bottom of the first inning. She gave up two walks in the inning and set up an RBI single by Kasey Tydingco with two outs. Lady Moc Vivian Morimoto tried to move to third on Tydingco's single, but Foster threw a strike from centerfield to Haley Pace at third for the third out of the inning.

Chattanooga took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Sarah Beth Roberts doubles to right center and with two outs Layne Rainey lays down a bunt single. With two outs, Cheyenne Willis hit a two RBI single to give the Lady Mocs the lead.

The Lady Mocs added three runs in the third inning after Garrett gave up her third walk of the game to Michelle Fuzzard and Vivian Morimoto doubled. Amber Steinhardt replaced Garrett on the mound. After getting a ground out, Steinhardt gave up a two RBI double to Sarah Beth Roberts for the final two runs of the inning.

With one out, Steinhardt sent a shot right down the left field line for a double and she moved to third on a Lady Mocs error. Steinhardt scored when Scotton ground out to first base.

Michelle Fuzzard added the seventh run of the game, for the Lady Mocs, when she hit a solo shot to right center field in the bottom of the fourth.

Chattanooga added three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to shorten the game.

Garrett takes the loss and falls to 6-14 on the year allowing five runs on five hits. Steinhardt went two innings also allowing five runs on five hits.

Western Carolina completes its series with Chattanooga on Sunday with a 2 p.m. start.
