Furman Defeats Tennis, 7-0

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Western Carolina Tennis was defeated 7-0 by Southern Conference challenger Furman on Wednesday at the Mickel Tennis Center.

In their third straight doubles victory, Stacia Kissell and Shannon Bettiol defeated Furman's Lauren Kline and Alex Moreno- Kaste 6-5 at the No. 1 position; while Nicole Nielly and Sara Ruiz Pajares fell 8-2 in the No. 2 match.

It was a day of tie breaks in singles competition as Furman edged by Kissell and Bettiol. Kissell lost at the No. 1 spot 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-1), while Bettiol was defeated in the No. 4 match 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7). Pajares, Nielly, and Erin Maguire also lost during singles at the No. 2, 3, and 5 positions.

Western Carolina returns home for the final two matches of the regular season this weekend, April 12-13, as the Catamounts welcome both Georgia Southern and the College of Charleston to the Catamount Athletic Complex. Friday's match is scheduled for Noon with an 11 a.m. start on Saturday.
