Women's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to UNCG 1-0

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's soccer (6-6-4, 3-3-1 Southern Conference) dropped a heart-breaker 1-0 Friday, in a hotly contested game, to visiting UNCG (8-5-3, 4-1-1 SoCon) at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

A battle the whole game, UNCG got the lucky goal at the 87:48 minute. Chesney White took a pass from Tracy Wolf to the right side of the box and sailed it past Catamount goal keeper Carly Tinstman.

The Catamounts dominated the second half keeping the ball on UNCG's side of the field for almost the entire 45 minutes of the second half. The Catamounts will lament missed goal scoring chances as multiple shots were just a hair's breathe of going into the net.

Western Carolina looked like it might take the crucial lead late in the second half when senior Madison Lee got a beautiful look at the goal but her shot just pinged off the top of the goal post and out. Lee's shot was one of six quality looks by the Catamounts in the second half.

In fact, the Catamount defense was so stifling in the second half UNCG, who had taken six shots in the first half, didn't get a shot until Candice Forbes' header shot at 87:19 that was saved by Tinstman. And then a minute the Spartains would score the game-winner.

Western Carolina will host VMI at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Catamounts will be honoring its seven seniors: Caitlyn Bradham, Christine Cockrell, Mackenzie Cole, Brittany Gendron, Jenny Lauer, Madison Lee and Christina White.
