Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Western Carolina women's soccer (5-4-4, 2-1-1 Southern Conference) fell to Samford (7-6, 2-1 SoCon) Sunday 4-1 at Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

The Catamounts got down early, as the Bulldogs scored a pair of goals in the first half, and could never recover.

Samford got on the board quickly in the game when at 12:48 Ariane Luken scored when her shot angled into the top right corner of the goal from 10 yards out off a pass from Malcanisha Kelley. Bulldogs added a second goal, of the first half, when seven minutes later, at 19:48, when Jermaine Seoposenwe scored from 20 yards out off an assist by Heather Lacy.

The Bulldogs would tack on two more goals in the second half to push its lead to 4-0.

Western Carolina avoided the shutout when junior Courtney Rosu got the Catamounts on the scoreboard at 70:12. Rosu got an unassisted goal when she took a shot from 20 yards out and it caromed into the goal. It was Rosu's third goal of the season.

Rosu's goal denied Samford the shutout. Western Carolina has not been shutout of a game since a 1-0 double overtime loss at Lipscomb on Sept. 5.

The loss halts Western Carolina's seven-game unbeaten streak. It is also the Catamounts' first loss in the Southern Conference. The four goals scored by Samford are the most Western Carolina have allowed this season.

Western Carolina will continue its road swing Friday when it travels to The Citadel. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
