Catamount Women's Soccer Shuts Out Campbell 3-0

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Western Carolina women's soccer scored a goal in the first half, and two in the second, to defeat Campbell 3-0 Saturday at Eakes Complex.

The Catamounts improve their record to 2-3-3 on the season while Campbell falls to 1-3-1. The shutout was the second of the season for Western Carolina and was the second win in the last three games for WCU.

Scoreless through most of the first half, Western Carolina would break the scoreless tie with just five minutes left in the half. At the 40:32 mark junior Courtney Rosu scored the first goal of her career when she took a shot about 10 yards out, and sent into the right side of the net. Seniors Mackenzie Cole and Madison Lee shared the assist. Western Carolina broke open the game in the span of a minute in the early minutes of the second half. Redshirt junior Kimberly Sullivan posted the second goal of the game, for Western Carolina, when she scored off a rebound at 54:30.

Just a minute later, junior forward Markie-Lynn Studnicky sent in the third goal of the game when fellow junior Kelly Pannell played the ball into the box and Studnicky scored from the left side. It was Studnicky's 16th goal of her career moving her into sole possession of fourth place in the Catamount record books for goals in a career.

Sophomore goalkeeper Carly Tinstman earned her second shutout of the season picking up four saves. She moves her overall record to 2-3-2 on the season.

Western Carolina returns home Friday, Sept. 19, hosting Middle Tennessee. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
