Post-Game Quotes
Western Carolina 45, Brevard 21
E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field

Opening Statement from WCU head coach Mark Speir:
"I'm excited about getting the win, that's always the goal. The big thing is to get on a roll here, making Cullowhee a tough place for visitors to come in to play. I thought our crowd was great with all the inclement weather in the area. They really got loud when we needed them to."

"I'm really proud of our offense. Our backs ran extremely hard. I thought Troy (Mitchell) managed the game well. Our offense has been scoring points by sustaining drives and not having to rely on big plays. Special teams were up and down. Kick-off returns were awesome today giving us great field position all day. Defensively, we played solid and did what we needed to do to win. We need to play better on that side of the ball."

"Compliments to Brevard, they played a whale of a ballgame. Coach (Paul) Hamilton really knows how to run that option offense. But tonight, it was a great team win for us. Both sides stepped up when they had to."

Junior RB No. 20 Darius Ramsey:
Talking about the first drive of the second half:
"Coming in, we knew that they would drain most of the clock (on offense), so as an offense, we knew we had to come in and score to give our defense some breathing room."

Talking about this week's offense versus last week:
"We knew we had to come out and enforce our will. Our offensive linemen took it upon themselves. They were not satisfied with last week's performance, and they came in this week and said `we are going to run and we are going to be physical,' and that is what they did."

Senior LB No. 7 Christon Gill:
Talking about getting the first win:
"We came out prepared. We knew it would be more of a mental game then a physical game when facing an option game. Our coaches preached squeezing the field and making tackles. But getting the win, it felt good. Me, being a senior, it took some pressure off my back. The fans helped us out a lot."

Junior QB No. 10 Troy Mitchell
Talking about the game:
"Coming into the game, we knew they were a running team and they would hold onto the ball for a long time. From the offensive standpoint, we felt we had to drive and score on every possession."

Talk about the offense this year:
"This is our third year together for most of us, and we worked hard over the summer and everything is starting to click. We are all out there battling for each other. And when you battle for each other, good things start to come."
