CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Western Carolina women's soccer dropped a hard-fought heartbreaker to Mercer 1-0 Sunday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

The Catamounts were on the offensive for most of the game winning the shot battle 12 to seven, but couldn't skirt one past Mercer goalie Maggie Cropp. Western Carolina had a handful of near-miss goals throughout the match but Cropp was there picking up six saves in the contest.

On the flip side, Mercer found the seam it needed for the win in the 56th minute of the game. Bear's Katelyn Dimopoulos took a pass from Maddie Clark sending the ball from the right side of the net over to the waiting Dimopoulos who scooted it past Catamount goal keeper Lauren Martin who had been pulled out from inside the goal.

Just five minutes earlier Dimopoulos had a golden chance to put Mercer on the scoreboard when a foul was called on Western Carolina and the Bears were awarded a penalty kick. Dimopoulos sent the ball high over the cross bar at 51:48 minute mark giving the Catamounts a momentary scoring reprieve.

The Catamounts had a flurry of shots in the closing minutes of the game but just couldn't find the mark.
