CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Western Carolina women's soccer earned its seventh shutout of the season blanking the visiting Chattanooga Mocs 2-0 Friday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
After a scoreless first half, Western Carolina posted two goals in the early going of the second half to take the 2-0 lead, and eventual win, over Chattanooga.
Redshirt senior Kimberly Sullivan scored the first goal for the Catamounts from an assist by freshman Sayres McKenna at 50:13. The Catamounts took a 2-0 lead when McKenna took a pass from the right side of the net from senior Markie-Lynn Studnicky and sent it into upper right side of the net just past the goal keeper.
Turning Point
At 50:13 Sullivan scored five minutes into the second half giving Western Carolina a 1-0 lead over Chattanooga.
Individual Leaders
- McKenna scored her second goal of the season and notched her team-leading seventh assist ... Her seven assists ties her for eighth in the Catamount record books for assists in a season.
- Sullivan scored her third goal of the season -- back-to-back seasons she has scored three goals. - Redshirt senior Lauren Martin earned her second shutout of the season and improves to 2-1-1 on the season.
Inside the Box Score
- At the 50:13 minute Sullivan took a pass from McKenna after a tussle for the ball inside the box pushed it to the right side finding McKenna who found Sullivan inside the box. - McKenna scored less than three minutes later, at 53:09, when Sullivan took the ball from the right side of the goal and sent it to McKenna about five yards from the goal sending it to the upper right side of the net.

- Western Carolina's win and Wofford's loss, Friday night, gives the Catamounts' a two-point lead over the Terriers and pushes WCU up to sixth place ... The outcome between Western Carolina and Samford and Wofford and The Citadel determine the sixth and seventh seed ... Whomever falls to the seventh seed will host a first round game Oct. 28.
- Western Carolina will honor its eight seniors Sunday prior to the game against Samford.
- After an injury in pre-game, Chattanooga senior goalkeeper Lauren Thomas got the start having played just 14 minutes prior to her start against Western Carolina ... Thomas weathered 15 Catamount shots and five saves.
