Bethune-Cookman Slips Past Women's Basketball 66-59

CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Freshman guard Raziyah Farrington poured in a career-high 17 points in Western Carolina women's basketball's hard-fought 66-59 loss to visiting Bethune-Cookman Wednesday in the Ramsey Center.

The Wildcats won the game on the free throw line going to the charity stripe 28 times and connecting on 19; shooting 67.9 percent.

Western Carolina didn't give up, even when the team was down by 18, 58-40, with 6:47 left in the game. The Catamounts had the Wildcats on edge in the final six minutes cutting the game to nine, 62-53, with 2:39 remaining thanks to a 13-4 run.

Bethune-Cookman hit a couple of key baskets and was 2-of-4 from the free throw line, in the final two minutes, to pull away. Western Carolina outscored Bethune-Cookman 23 to 13 in the fourth period.

The Wildcats shot 40 percent from the field and Western Carolina was just behind at 39 percent. The Catamounts hit one more field goal, 23 to 22, and one additional three pointer, four to three. Western Carolina saw the game slip away at the charity strip only going to the line 11 times to the Wildcats above mentioned 28.

Turning Point
Bethune-Cookman outscored Western Carolina in three of the four periods and also made the most of the Wildcats' trips to the free throw line hitting 19-of-28.

Individual Leaders
- Farrington scored a career-high 17 points.
- Sophomore Sherae Bonner led the team in rebounds with eight and also had a pair of blocks.
- Kyia Hough dished out five assists.

Inside the Box Score
- Rebounds were nearly even between the two teams with Bethune-Cookman edging Western Carolina 38 to 37.
- Turnovers were neck and neck with Bethune-Cookman giving up the ball 19 times and WCU 22.
- Western Carolina got 38 of its 59 points from the bench.
- Bethune-Cookman was 19-of-28 from the free throw line.
- The Wildcats scored 34 points inside the paint.
- The score was tied twice and the lead changed once.

News & Notes
- Western Carolina suffered its first loss of the season falling to Bethune-Cookman.
- 12 of the 13 Catamount players saw action in the game and 10 of the 12 got in the scoring column.
- For the first time in two games Ace Easter nor Julia Brown scored in double figures.
- Brown hit the first three-pointer of her Catamount career in the game against Bethune-Cookman.
