Women's Basketball Falls to UNC Asheville 67-45

CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Western Carolina women's basketball dropped a 67-45 decision to visiting UNC Asheville Tuesday in the Ramsey Center.

The Catamounts struggled from the field shooting 28.1 percent and battled through 20 turnovers in the contest. UNCA on the other side of the court shot 40 percent and coughed the ball up just nine times.

Senior guard, and Franklin, N.C. native, Lindsay Simpson was the only double figure scorer for the Catamounts with a season-high 14 points. Of the five three-pointers Western Carolina hit in the game, Simpson connected on four of them.

The Bulldogs' Tianna Knuckles led all scorers with 15 points and was one of four UNCA players to score in double figures. Paige Love had 13, K.J. Weaver 12 and Ja'Da Brayboy added 11.

Western Carolina did win the rebounding battle ripping down 48 to UNCA's 41. The tale was in the paint as the Bulldogs scored 34 of its 67 inside the paint.

Turning Point
UNCA opened up the game early outscoring WCU 23-16 in the first period and won all four periods in the contest. Trailing 39-29 at the half, UNCA held WCU to just six points in the third period, scoring 12, to halt any chance of the Catamounts making a comeback.

Individual Leaders
- Simpson led WCU with a season-high 14 points.
- Sophomore Sherae Bonner led the team in rebounds with eight.
- Kyia Hough dished out four assists.

Inside the Box Score
- Western Carolina had 48 rebounds to UNCA's 41.
- WCU coughed the ball up 20 times with UNCA scoring 17 points off turnovers.
- The Catamounts got just 15 points from its bench.
- Both teams hit five three-pointers in the game.

Western Carolina travels Kennesaw, Ga. to participate in the Kennesaw Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 28 and Nov. 29. The Catamounts will play host Kennesaw State Saturday at 4:30 p.m. with the game broadcast on ESPN3. WCU will make a quick turn around and play Florida A&M at 2 p.m. Sunday.
