KENNESAW, Ga. -- Western Carolina women's basketball fell to Kennesaw State 65-53 Saturday in the first of two games at the Thanksgiving Classic held at the KSU Convocation Center.

Kennesaw State pounded the glass with 42 rebounds, 26 on the defensive side. Western Carolina could just manage 27 and only seven on the offensive side.

Kennesaw State outscored WCU 40-30 in the final two periods to pull ahead after the Owls lead 25-23 at halftime.

In the fourth period, WCU suffered through a scoring drought of over three minutes and allowed the Owls to build a commanding lead. Western Carolina did pick up shooting late in the fourth period. After struggling to start the fourth period, the Catamounts ended up scoring the most points in a period with 20 in the fourth.

Western Carolina won just one of the four periods, outscoring KSU 11 to seven in the second period.

Senior guard Lindsay Simpson led the Catamounts with 10 points and hit two of WCU's three 3-pointers in the game.

Kennesaw State's Jasmine McCallister recorded a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Owls.

Turning Point
In the final two periods, Kennesaw State outscored Western Carolina 40-30 with 25 of those points coming in the third period.

Individual Leaders
- Simpson led WCU with 10 points.
- Erika Joseph led the team with seven rebounds and also had eight points.
- Sherae Bonner just missed scoring in double figures with eight points.

Inside the Box Score
- Kennesaw State scored 48 of its 65 points in the paint.
- Each team had 12 turnovers. - Kenneasw State never trailed in the game.
- Kennesaw State had six blocks in the game.
- Western Carolina went to the free throw line just once in the game, late in the fourth quarter, hitting both, ending the game 2-of-2.

- Senior Brianne Mack got her first start of the season against Kennesaw State.
