BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Campbell outlasted Western Carolina women's basketball. In a tightly contested game, to secure 73-66 victory Monday in Gore Arena.
The Catamounts had a solid showing, leading for most of the game, but a fourth period slump was something WCU couldn't overcome. Western Carolina led after the first and second periods before Campbell held a 51-50 advantage in the third. Campbell outscored WCU 22-16 in the fourth period to pace them to victory.
Both teams traded leads in the first and second period and the game was a nail-bitter with Campbell edging WCU 16-14 in the fourth period. However, Western Carolina's went over four minutes without scoring in the fourth period giving Campbell the window to grab the lead and the victory. Sophomore Sheare Bonner ended the WCU scoring drought with a pair of free throws with 2:14 left in the game.
Western Carolina also turned the ball over 23 times in the game allowing the Camels to turn it into 31 points.
Sophomore guard Ace Easter topped Western Carolina with 11 points, the fourth time this season she has scored in double figures. Raziyah Farrington added 11 points.
Summer Price led Campbell with 26 points and RaeChaun Edwards followed with 23.
Turning Point
Tied at 56 in the fourth perid, Campbell's Amanda Coffer hit a bucket and was fouled completing the three-point play and giving the Camels a 59-56 lead. The three-point lead was all the Camels needed to build on for the win.
Individual Leaders
- Easter led WCU with 11 points her fourth time this season scoring in double figures.
- Farrington had 10 points the third time this season she has scored in double figues.
- Price for Campbell led all scorers with 26 points.
