Lindsey Burleson Has Career Double-Double in 80-59 Loss at Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Senior forward Lindsey Burleson had a career-high double-double, 13 points and 10 rebounds, in Western Carolina women's basketball's 80-59 loss to Charleston Southern Tuesday in the Buc Dome.

Burleson was one of three Catamounts to score in double figures with sophomore guard Ace Easter leading the way with 15 points and just missing a double-double with eight rebounds. Freshman guard Raziyah Farrington added 10.

The Bucs quick start to the game, scoring the first 10 points of the contest, set the tone for the game. The Catamounts also struggled from the field going the first five minutes without scoring. The Catamounts first bucket of the contest was a jumper by Burleson -- points that would catapult her to a career day.

The game stayed in double digits, in favor of Charleston Southern, for most of the contest, however the Catamounts did stage a nice little run mid-way through the second period. Trailing by 10 with 8:38 to go in the second, the Catamounts twice cut the lead to five with the final time coming off a jumper by Easter at 6:50, 26-21. Charleston Southern outscored WCU 15 to five to close out the period and never led by single digits again.

Charleston Southern shot 46.8 percent from the field and got 19 points off 22 Western Carolina turnovers. On the flip side, the Bucs only coughed the ball up eight times.

The Bucs were led by Alyssa Mann who topped all scorers with 22. CSU also had three score in double figures with Rachel Burns adding 17 and Monique Maximilien chipping in 12.

Turning Point
Charleston Southern opened the game on a 10-0 run and never looked back as Western Carolina went the first five minutes of the first period without scoring. The Catamounts would play catch-up the remainder of the game but could never recover from the early CSU run.

Individual Leaders
Burleson recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
- Easter led WCU with 15 points - the fifth time this season she has scored in double figures,
- Farrington had 10 points and tied her career-high with four assists.
- Mann for Charleston Southern led all scorers with 22.

- Western Carolina turned the ball over 22 times leading to 19 points for Charleston Southern.
- .Western Carolina won the rebounding battle out-rebounding the Bucs 41-37

News & Notes
- Freshman guard Angel Allen got the first start of her Catamount career against Charleston Southern.
- With the loss to Charleston Southern, Western Carolina has not won its game before Christmas break since 2006 when the Catamounts defeated UNCG 53-52 - a side note, current Head Coach Stephanie McCormick was an assistant under then head coach Kellie Harper during that win.
- Western Carolina had three players score in double figures, against Charleston Southern, for the first time since having three in the win over Anderson on Nov. 15.
- The 80 points scored by Charleston Southern is the third most scored by an opponent this season.
- Western Carolina lost its fourth straight game and has yet to win a game in the month of December.
- Senior forward Brianne Mack had a career-high three blocks against Charleston Southern.
