Cullowhee, N.C. -
Inclement weather associated with Winter Storm Quantum has resulted in the postponement of Western Carolina baseball's nonconference mid-week meeting with mountain-rival UNC Asheville which was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at UNCA's Greenwood Field. It is the second-consecutive Wednesday the two programs have had weather-related schedule changes.
Snowfall across the region on an already damp playing surface made the field unplayable. Also, unfavorable forecasts for additional winter precipitation on Wednesday stemming from a currently unnamed storm prompted officials at UNC Asheville to postpone Wednesday afternoon's ballgame.
No make-up date for Wednesday's game has been announced. The two squads are currently slated to play two games in early May in a home-and-home.
Western Carolina (3-3) is scheduled to return home to Childress Field / Hennon Stadium for a three-game nonconference series against the Youngstown State Penguins (0-3). The series represents the first-ever meeting between the two programs on the baseball diamond. Youngstown State had its second, three-game series of the season canceled last weekend at Tennessee Tech due to wintry weather.
