WILMINGTON, N.C. - Western Carolina softball (3-6) closed out play at the Seahawk Softball Spring Classic, hosted by UNC Wilmington, with a 7-0 loss to Delaware at Boseman Field Sunday.
It was the third time WCU had faced Delaware in the tournament with the Blue Hens taking two of the three meetings.
The Blue Hens scored early and often taking advantage of three Catamount errors. Delaware scored two runs in the second inning, one in the third and four in the fifth inning.
Senior pitcher Jordan Garrett go the start and went four innings allowing three runs on three hits and four strikeouts. Junior Mallory Broome pitched the fifth inning giving up four runs and walking three. Taylor Sigmon pitched two innings facing seven batters strikeout three and only gave up one hit.
Western Carolina had six hits in the game but just couldn't push a run across. Junior Victoria Mariscal went 2-for-4 from the Catamounts.
Western Carolina will host Ohio in its home opener Tuesday. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 3 p.m. at the Catamount Softball Complex.
