With the Loss ...
- The Catamounts move to 1-2 on the season;

- Western Carolina drops its fourth-consecutive road game dating back to last season;

- Marks the 50th loss for the Catamounts against NCAA Division I FBS opponents and 17th-straight defeat against a team from the SEC … WCU is winless all-time against FBS foes.

Post-Game Notes: - Saturday night’s game was played in front of a crowd of 102,136, which ranks as the largest crowd to ever witness a Western Carolina football game … the previous highs include 101,325 in 2014 at Alabama and 101,126 in 2012, also at Alabama;

- Sophomore running back Detrez Newsome rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown, setting a new career-high for the second-year back … the 128 yards surpassed his previous high of 123 set last season against The Citadel … It is the second-straight week in which Newsome has rushed for 100+ yards and the third-consecutive week in which he has tallied a rushing touchdown to start the season;

- Newsome accounted for a career-best 241 all-purpose yards at Tennessee … His previous career-high was 207 yards against Brevard during his freshman season a year ago;

- Newsome also broke off a career-long rush of 64 yards which surpassed his previous best of 45 yards set last weekend at The Citadel … He also had a 44-yard run against the Vols … Newsome’s 64-yard touchdown sprint midway through the fourth quarter was the longest rush for the Catamounts this season – and WCU’s longest rush from scrimmage since 2011 when Shaun Warren went 82 yards against Mars Hill;

- Freshman punter Ian Berryman connected on his longest career punt with a 55 yard kick midway through the third quarter;

- Junior linebacker Tyson Dickson led the Catamounts with 12 tackles ... It marked the third-time of his career that he record double-digit stops in a single game … He also recorded his first career sack early in the third quarter;

- Freshman DB Marvin Tillman was credited with a career-high six tackles against Tennessee … DL Tommy Tate also set a career-best with five tackles.

Miscellaneous Notes:
- Western Carolina's team captains for Saturday night's game were junior DB #3 Fred Payne; senior DB #4 Sertonuse Harris; senior QB #10 Troy Mitchell; redshirt sophomore LB #58 Daniel Riddle; and redshirt senior OL #61 Jake Thornton ... Tennessee won the coin toss and choose to defer to the second half … WCU received the opening kickoff;

- Redshirt junior TE #15 Michael Helms Jr., carried out the American flag while senior LB #30 A.J. McKoy carried out the “All You’ve Got” flag during pregame on Saturday.
