LEXINGTON, Va. -- Redshirt sophomore Kasey Cooke scored a career-high pair of goals pacing Western Carolina women's soccer to a 5-0 win over VMI Sunday at Patchin Field.

The Catamounts scored a season-high five goals pushing its goal total to 17 for the season. WCU also picked up its first Southern Conference victory on the year.

Cooked got it started for WCU taking a pass from Amanda Schwartz and heading it into the upper right corner at the sixth minute mark. The Catamounts would go on to score a second goal at the 23rd minute -- an unassisted goal by Sheridan Caudle.

Leading 2-0, Western Carolina would pour on three goals in the second half to earn its fifth shutout of the season.

 

Turning Point
Cooke got Western Carolina on the board early in the game with a header score at the sixth minute mark.

Individual Leaders
- Cooke scored a career-high two goals against VMI.
- Goalkeeper Carly Tinstman earned her fifth shutout of the season.
- Redshirt senior Lauren Martin saw action for the second time this season playing the final 28 minutes of the game.
- Deyana Walker scored her first career goal as a Catamount - the final goal scored by the Catamounts against VMI.
- Pannell had a career-high two assists.

Inside the Box Score
- Cooke scored her first of two goals in the game at 6:39 - a cross from Schwartz headed into the upper right corner.
- Sheridan Caudle scored off a deflection with a shot just outside the box.
- At 52:29 Cooke scored her second goal of the game taking a pass from Alexa Frankeny after a scrum inside the box.
- Markie-Lynn Studnicky scored off a scramble inside the box off a double assist by Kelly Pannell and Courtney Rosu.
- Walker scored the fifth goal of the game taking a cross from the middle by Pannell five feet away.
