Women's Soccer Shuts Down Longwood 1-0

CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Western Carolina women's soccer halted a two-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Longwood Sunday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

The Catamounts struck early putting the ball into the back of the net in the seventh minute of the game. Sara Robinson took a pass from freshman Sayres McKenna about 10 yards in front of the box for the score.

Shots were nearly even as Longwood had nine and the Catamounts posted eight. WCU arguably had the better looks at the goal including a near goal from McKenna

 

Turning Point
Western Carolina scored the lone goal of the game in the seventh minute of the contest.

Individual Leaders
- McKenna notched her third assist of the season on Robinson's goal.
- Junior goalkeeper Carly Tinstman earned the shutout in the game. She also had five saves.

Inside the Box Score
- At the 7:10 mark, Robinson took a pass from McKenna about 10 yards in front of the goal for the score.

News & Notes
- With the assist, McKenna now leads the team with five points - one goal and three assists.
- Robinson scored her first goal of the season and the sixth of her career.
- Tinstman recorded her third shutout of the season. Dating back to the final 15 minutes of the first half against Campbell, including a scoreless second half against the Camels, Tinstman has not allowed a goal in the last 150 minutes of play.
- Western Carolina will play its next six games on the road and won't play another home game until Oct. 9 against The Citadel.
