CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Western Carolina women's basketball dropped its first Southern Conference road game of the season 77-59 to Chattanooga Wednesday in McKenzie Arena.
The Catamounts watched a strong first period, trailing the Mocs 19-14, erode in the ensuing next two periods. Western Carolina scored just 12 points in the second and 11 in the third as Chattanooga took advantage of the scoring droughts to build a 60-37 lead after three periods.
Western Carolina did finish strong outscoring Chattanooga 22-17 in the fourth period.
Chattanoga shot a scorching 52.6 percent from the field and was assisted in scoring by 19 trips to the free throwline going 15-for-19 in the game. The Mocs scored 50 of its 77 points inside the paint.
Western Carolina had two players score in double figures with sophomore guard Ace Easter leading the way with 13 points and senior guard Lindsay Simpson following with 10. Chattanooga had four players score in double figures paced by Queen Alford's 20.
Turning Point
Chattanooga took a slim 19-14 lead in the first period and ballooned it to 41-26 at the half outscoring Western Carolina 22-12 in the second period.
Individual Leaders
- Easter hit three treys and led Western Carolina with 13 points.
- Simpson had 10 points and hit a pair of three-pointers.
- Sophomore guard Kyia Hough was 4-of-6 from the free throw line.
- Alford for Chattanooga had 20 points and was 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
