JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Western Carolina women's basketball's flurried second-half come-back attempt fell short Saturday dropping a 74-62 decision to ETSU in Brooks Gym,
After scoring just 16 points in the first two periods, Western Carolina exploded for a combined 46 in the third and fourth. The Catamounts comeback flurry came after overcoming a 41-16 deficit at the half. WCU sliced the ETSU lead to seven three times in fourth period.
With the lead cut to seven for the third time in the fourth period, 65-58, the Buccaneers' Chandler Christopher drained a three-pointer with 4:18 left to all but lock up the game.
Western Carolina got off to a quick start, scoring the first five points of the game, but couldn't sustain it. In a six minute span, from the final three minutes of the first period and the first three of the second period, ETSU went on an 11-0 run. Western Carolina only scored five points in the second period.
Western Carolina had four players score in double figures led by senior guard Lindsay Simpson with 13 points including three treys. Ace Easter, Sherae Bonner and Raziyah Farrington each had 10. It was Farrington's first game back in two contests after sitting out with an injury.
ETSU was led by Christopher's 20 points.
Turning Point
With ETSU leading 13-11 with three plus minutes left in the first period, Western Carolina went on a six minute scoring drought, from the end of the first period until 7:22 left in the second, allowing the Buccaneers to go on an 11-0 run. WCU also scored just three points in the first six minutes of the second period.
Individual Leaders
- Simpson paced Western Carolina with 13 points.
- Easter, Bonner and Farrington each scored 10 points.
- Bonner and Joseph each ripped down a team-high seven rebounds.
- Kyia Hough dished out four assists.

- ETSU was 23-of-31 from the free throw line.
- Western Carolina out-rebounded ETSU 40-37.
- ETSU shot 40 percent from the field and was 7-of-22 from the three point line.

News & Notes
- With Simpson's three treys in the game she moves into third place in the WCU record books for three-pointers in a career with 159.
- After sitting out two games with an injury, Farrington returned to the court against ETSU to score 10 points - her sixth time this season scoring in double figures.
- Simpson's 13 points against ETSU has now pushed her consecutive double figure scoring streak to five.
- Easter has scored in double figures in three straight games and seven of the last eight.
- Western Carolina outscored ETSU in the third (28-18) and fourth periods (18-15).
