BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Freshman lefty hurler Lily Hayes threw a three-hit shutout to navigate Western Carolina softball to a 1-0 win over Western Kentucky Sunday in the final day of the Holiday Inn Spring Fling.
Turning Point
With the bases loaded in the top of the third, senior second baseman Crystal Cyr hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Victoria Mariscal, for the only run of the game.
How it Happened
- After two scoreless innings, Western Carolina got on the board in the top of the third. Mariscal led off with a single to right field. With one out Abigail Daniels singled and Kara Salvo walked to load the bases. Cyr hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Mariscal and Daniels was thrown out trying to go to third.
- Western Kentucky had baserunners in the first, second and sixth innings. Strong defensive plays by WCU, including turning a pair of double plays, kept the Hilltoppers off the scoreboard.
Inside the Box Score
- Hayes tossed the first complete game and shutout of her career giving up three runs, striking out two and improving to 3-1 on the season.
- Mariscal and Daniels were the only Catamounts to pound out hits in the game. - Western Carolina turned two double plays in the game.

- Western Carolina recorded its third shutout of the season with the 1-0 win over Western Kentucky.
- The two hits by WCU is the lowest hit total of the season and the one run is the least amount of runs the Catamounts have scored in a win this season.
