BRIMINGHAM, Ala. -Western Carolina Tennis (10-7, 0-4 SoCon) was defeated 6-1 by Samford Bulldogs (8-8, 3-0 SoCon) on Friday.
"Samford was just a better team today,” said assistant coach Jacob Eddins. “We got off to a very slow start in doubles but I thought we did a great job making a big adjustment going into singles play.”
The Catamounts got swept in doubles play to fall behind 1-0 in the match.
Samford won at No. 4, 3, and 2 singles to clinch the match and before the Catamounts were able to get on the board.
Senior Stacia Kissell continued with her stellar play at No. 1 defeating Jessica Northcutt 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 in three sets for the lone point.
The Bulldogs closed out the scoring by taking No. 5 in straight sets, and needing three sets to get the point at No. 6.
”Our girls had some chances on every court and we put ourselves in a position to finish sets, but Samford played the big points a little better today,” stated Eddins. “We will learn from this match moving forward to help us prepare for a very good Furman team on Wednesday."
Western Carolina return to the courts on Wednesday, April 6 at 3 p.m. against another SoCon foe in Furman.
