Back-to-back homeruns by Furman in the bottom of the third gave the Paladins the early 3-0 advantage and they never trailed.
How it Happened
- Back-to-back homeruns by Furman's Candice Johnson and Sierra Bishop, in the bottom of the third gave, the Paladins a 3-0 lead.
- Furman tacked on a run, in the bottom of the fourth, off an RBI single by Brittany Houston.
- Western Carolina got a run in the top of the fifth. Victoria Mariscal was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and back-to-back singles by Karley Harkey and Kara Salvo loaded the bases. Amber Kimrey's RBI fielder's choice scored Mariscal for the Catamounts' run. Western Carolina had a chance to add more runs but back-to-back fielder's choice plays erased the scoring chance.
Inside the Box Score
- Courtney Buchanan got the start and takes the loss going two innings giving up three runs on four hits and striking out two. Buchanan falls to 12-5 on the season.
- Sigmon replaced Buchanan in the third and completed the game. She allowed one runs on five hits and struck out four. After Furman scored runs in third and fourth Sigmon held the Paladins scoreless in the final two innings of the game.
- Western Carolina had four hits in the game and gave up eight to Furman.

- Western Carolina turned its 23rd double play of the season which is a Catamount school record for double plays in a season.
- Sigmon moved into second place in the WCU record books for strikeouts in a career with four strikeouts in the game against Furman. She now sits in second place with 386.
- Mariscal is on a four-game hitting streak.
- Sigmon's 182 strikeouts in 2016 ranks third in the WCU record books for strikeouts in a season.
- As a team, Western Carolina's 233 RBI this season ranks third in the WCU record books for RBI in a season. The team needs four RBI to take over second place from the 2007 team who had 236.
- With 48 RBI this season, Crystal Cyr ranks third in the WCU record books for RBI in a season. She needs seven RBI to move into second place currently held by former Catamount Erin Foster who had 54 in 2012.

Western Carolina will take the next 12 days off before returning home to hosts its final home series of the season welcoming Mercer May 7-8. Seniors Brooke Coggins, Cyr, Harkey, Kimrey, Mariscal and Sigmon will be honored between games one and two Saturday, May 7 with game one beginning at 1 p.m.
