GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Senior outfielder Courtney Price broke the school record for doubles in a career, with 33, as Western Carolina dropped its Southern Conference opening doubleheader at UNCG 6-0 and 10-2, in five innings, Saturday at the UNCG Softball Complex.

UNCG scored all six runs in the first three innings, including a grand-slam by Spartan Jasmine Palmer, to defeat Western Carolina 6-0.

- Palmer hit a grand-slam to break open the game in the third inning. It was her sixth homerun of her career. - Western Carolina pitching combined for seven walks in the game.

She settled down for her second time in the game tossing 2.2 scoreless innings allowing three hits and striking out three. How it Happened:
UNCG scored three runs in both the first, second and third inning to lead 9-0 after the first three innings. Western Carolina looked to briefly avoid the run rule scoring two runs in the top of the fifth to make the score 9-2. It appeared WCU would score its first run of the game to lead off the fifth when Kassandra Flores sent a sky-high shot to left field but was robbed when Danielle Bieberle's glove went over the wall and dragged the ball in for the out. With two outs, Western Carolina got something going when Shaina Reed reached first on a UNCG error, with two outs. It was the first error of the series for either team. Abigail Daniels followed with a double to right centerfield putting runners at second and third. A RBI single by Weatherman scored Reed and a walk to Price loaded the bases for WCU. Hunter Gibbons was walked to score Daniels and mark the Catamounts second run of the game. UNCG ended the game at five, after going up by eight runs, when Gabrielle Cubbage hit a two out homerun to end the game.
