Lingard Leads Catamounts at Southern Conference Championship

Cullowhee, N.C. – Running in her final home meet, Western Carolina senior Kaitlyn Lingard made the most of the opportunity as she earned Second Team All-Southern Conference honors thanks to an eighth-place finish in the 2018 Southern Conference Championship on Saturday morning. Both the Catamount men's and women's teams finished in sixth place in the team standings.

Lingard navigated the rain-soaked 5K course in 18:13.86, the 10th-fastest time in school history and Lingard's second-fastest time this season at that distance. Classmate Christina Nikolaou finished in 19th place with a time of 18:48.06. Lindsey Trotter finished in 24th at 19:07.43, followed by Jamie Blaylock in 51st at 20:05.35. Siena Gates scored a 64th place finish as she crossed the finish line in 20:56.63. Peyton Wood finished in 67th with a time of 21:13.88, closely followed by Kate Mattison in 68th at 21:15.87. Caroline Schoessow finished in 74th as she completed the race in 22:12.55 with D'Amani Bryant finishing in 76th with a time of 22:47.69.

On the men's side, senior Jordan Bostian led the Catamounts with an 18th place finish as he completed the 8K race in 26:21.57. Isaiah Hanna finished in 40th at 27:38.20, followed by Tyler Robakiewicz in 45th at 27:56.18 and Ian Reesh in 46th at 28:00.26. Kevin Pack rounded out Western Carolina's top-five as he finished with a time of 28:13.66 for a 52nd place result. Justin Tucker followed Pack in 53rd with a time of 28:15.58. Terry Young finished in 61st with a time of 28:29.83. Caleb Albrecht finished in 64th with a time of 28:45.28 ahead of Tyler White in 76th and his time of 29:47.63.

Furman won both the men's and women's team titles. Furman's Aaron Templeton defended his individual title in the men's race, finishing in 24:01.52. Wofford's Hannah Steelman won the women's race in 17:05.17.

Western Carolina travels to Rock Hill, S.C. for the NCAA Southeast Regional meet on Nov. 9.
