Terriers Topple Catamounts on Saturday

CULLOWHEE, N.C.Carlos Dotson led Western Carolina with 17 points, but the Catamounts were unable to hold off Wofford as the Terriers claimed a 74-54 decision in a Southern Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the Ramsey Center.

Wofford improves to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in league play while Western Carolina drops to 3-12 and 0-2.

Dotson finished in double figures for the 11th time this season and tied a career-high with two steals. Onno Steger tallied 13 points while Josh Cottrell finished with nine points in his second career start. Steger tied his career-high with a team-best eight rebounds. Kameron Gibson dished out a career-high four assists.

Cameron Jackson scored a game-high 20 points followed by Matt Pegram with 15 and Fletcher Magee with 14. Jackson grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Terriers.

Jackson opened the scoring with a layup 13 seconds into the game before Cottrell drained a 3-pointer at the 19:09 mark to give the Catamounts a 3-2 advantage. After a Jackson bucket pushed the Wofford lead to 12-4, the Catamounts answered with an 8-3 run as a Steger 3-pointer brought WCU within three, 15-12 at the 11:25 mark. Wofford answered with a 16-4 run capped by a Nathan Hoover free throw to lead 31-16 with just over three minutes to play in the half. A Dotson layup with less than a second remaining sent the Catamounts into halftime trailing 33-25.

A Dotson layup to open the second half brought the hosts within six, 33-27. Wofford used a 17-6 run for a 50-33 lead at the 14:02 mark following a Ryan Larson bucket. Matt Pegram gave the Terriers a game-high 65-41 lead with his jumper at the 5:16 mark. Cottrell drained a 3-pointer with 24 seconds left for the game's final score.

Wofford went 29-for-63 (46.0 percent) from the field while Western Carolina finished 17-for-43 (39.5 percent) from the field. The Terriers outrebounded Western Carolina 39-28.

Western Carolina hosts Chattanooga on Thursday at 7 p.m.
