BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Western Carolina women's tennis dropped a 5-2 decision at Samford Friday afternoon in a Southern Conference road trip for the Catamounts.
Samford won the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 to take the early 1-0 lead. The Catamounts avoided the sweep at doubles when Caitlin Ward and Carli Deehr took the win at No. 3 doubles 6-3.
In singles, Samford picked up wins at No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to secure the 5-2 victory.
Western Carolina got wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles to pick up two points in the match. Jordan Strickland earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles and Lauren McCall notched a win at No. 3 singles 7-5, 6-4.
Strickland improved to 11-4 overall in singles and McCall moved to 10-5 with the win. Overall, WCU falls to 9-6 and 2-2 in Southern Conference play.
Western Carolina returns home at 3 p.m. Wednesday to host Furman, in a Southern Conference match-up at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
