ATHENS, Ga. -- Western Carolina softball fell to No. 11 Georgia 6-0 Wednesday at Jack Turner Stadium.

Turning Point
Georgia scored in five of the six innings they had an at-bat and held Western Carolina scoreless.

How it Happened
- Georgia took the lead early scoring a pair of runs in the first inning to top the Catamounts 2-0 after one inning.
- In the second inning, Georgia added its second run off an RBI double by Alyssa DiCarlo.
- Western Carolina looked like it would get out of the Bulldog half of the third without a Georgia score but a walk and a hit batter allowed for a two-out RBI double by Jordan Doggett for the fourth run of the game for UGA.
- With one out, in the fourth, Georgia added its first homerun of the game off the bat of DiCarlo for the Bulldogs fifth run of the game.
- Georgia also scored a run in the fifth and the sixth.

Inside the Box Score
- Western Carolina's only real threat in the game came off the bat of junior center fielder Hunter Gibbons. In the second inning, Gibbons took a 1-1 pitch for what looked like an apparent home run but Bulldog Cortni Emanuel jumped up and snatched the ball before it went over the left field wall.
- In the fourth inning, Georgia pitcher Kylie Bass' attempt at a perfect game was erased when with two outs she hit Madison Armstrong for the Catamounts first baserunner of the game.
- Junior Lily Hayes got the start for Western Carolina and went five innings giving up six runs on eight hits, walked five and struck out one. Hayes falls to 0-5 on the year.
- In the sixth, freshman hurler Haley Brogden came into the game to relieve Hayes. She tossed a scoreless sixth inning holding the Bulldogs without a run in an inning for the first time in the game.
- Georgia had 10 hits in the game.
- It took to the seventh inning but Western Carolina avoided the no-hitter with a single to right field by Catamount freshman Kailey McNeil.

News & Notes
- Thanks to a hit by a pitch, Armstrong kept her on-base streak alive moving to six consecutive games. Her hitting streak, however, ended at four games.
- After being shut out by Georgia, Western Carolina has now only scored one run in the last 40 innings.
- The game against No. 11 Georgia was the third ranked team the Catamounts have played the season. WCU also dropped games to then No. 23 James Madison and then ranked No. 12 Auburn.
