Softball Falls to Furman in SoCon Series Finale

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Western Carolina dropped the final game of the three-game Southern Conference series with Furman 7-0 Sunday at the Pepsi Complex.

Turning Point
A pair of homeruns in the second and fourth inning got the scoring started for Furman and they never looked back.

How it Happened
- The Paladins got the first run of the game off a lead-off solo homerun in the bottom of the second.
- After a Catamount error, Furman hit a homerun with the next batter - a two-run shot in the fourth inning. A pair of Catamount errors allowed the third and fourth run of the inning to score.
- Furman tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Inside the Box Score
- Freshman hurler Kayla Brewer got the first start of her Catamount career. She went four innings giving up five runs, two earned, on five hits and struck out three. She falls to 0-1 on the year.
- In the fifth inning, Brewer was replaced by fellow freshman Haley Brogden who went two innings giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits and struck out one.
- Senior Abigail Daniels broke up Furman pitcher Lindsey Bert's no-hitter with a single in the top of the sixth after sophomore Erica Hayes was hit by a pitch.
- Furman ended the game with eight hits while Western Carolina had two - one by Daniels and one by Kailey McNeil.

Up Next
Western Carolina returns home Wednesday to host Radford in the Catamounts final non-conference doubleheader of the season. The first game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
