JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - After Western Carolina softball was unable to complete the suspended game at ETSU from Saturday on Sunday afternoon, the Buccaneers were awarded the win as they were up 3-1 when the game was halted. The third and final game of the series on Sunday was also canceled due to inclement weather and poor field conditions.
The Catamounts will be the No. 7 seed in the upcoming 2018 Southern Conference Championships and will face No. 2 seed Mercer at 12:30 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C. on the UNCG campus.
Turning Point
With the game tied 1-1, and runners at second and third, ETSU scored the decisive runs in the bottom of the sixth, with a two RBI single to right center field. After the game was suspended due to inclement weather on Saturday, the contest was unable to be resumed on Sunday and the game was marked final and ETSU was awarded the win.
How it Happened
- ETSU took the lead in the bottom of the second off a homerun.
- Western Carolina scored its first run of the series to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the third. Designated player Cheyenne Mathews hit a double to right center and scored off Erica Hayes RBI double.
- ETSU scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to break the tie and secure the win.
Inside the Box Score
- Kinsey Liscio got the start in game two tossing 5.2 innings giving up three runs on nine hits and struck out one. She falls to 5-11 on the year.
- Western Carolina had five hits in the game.
- Hayes went 2-for-3 in the game with an RBI.

- Hunter Gibbons enters the upcoming SoCon Championships continuing to chase the WCU homerun record. She has 28 in her career and needs one to tie the record of 29 and two to break it.
- The Catamounts will face Mercer in the SoCon Championships for the first time. The Bears took two out of three in the regular season with the Catamounts earning a 9-1 win, in five innings, in game two of the series. The Catamounts have scored the most runs on the Bears in conference play.
