Catamounts Venture to Pirate Invitational Friday

Cullowhee, N.C. – In their final tune-up before the Southern Conference championship, the Western Carolina cross country teams head to the eastern part of the state on Friday for the Pirate Invitational hosted by East Carolina at Overton's Lake Kristi.

The women's 6K race is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. followed by the men's 8K race at 4:40 p.m.

WCU scored seventh-place team finishes for both men and women at the Queen City Invite on Sept. 27. Senior Lindsey Trotter led the women's team with a 14th place finish with a time of 18:35, just seven seconds shy of tying her 5K personal best. Classmate Isaiah Hanna paced the men's team with an 8K time of 26:06 to finish in 23rd place.

In addition to the Catamounts and SoCon foe UNCG, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Duke (men only), Elon, Hampton, NC State, Norfolk State, Richmond, South Carolina (women only), UNCW, VCU and host East Carolina consist of the Division I portion of the meet.

The 2019 Southern Conference championships are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2 in Johnson City, Tenn. The women's race begins at 10 a.m. followed by the men' race at 10:45 a.m.
