LaPlant Honored as SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

First honor for red-shirt junior

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball player Lauren LaPlant has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Dec. 18-23. The selection is made by the league office. 

 In the pair of games this past week the red-shirt junior, averaged 13 points per game scoring 10 points against Tennessee Tech and 16 against Winthrop. She hit five three-pointers in the pair of games including four against Winthrop. She is currently averaging 10.5 points per game and has scored in double figures in the last five games and six of the last seven. 

LaPlant, from Asheboro, N.C., graduated Dec. 14 Suma Cum Laude with a degree in Chemistry. She was recognized during commencement by Chancellor Kelli R. Brown for her research work while pursuing her degree. LaPlant has been accepted into graduate school at Western Carolina and will start in January.
Western Carolina will return to the hardwood Dec. 30 traveling to College of Charleston for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off.
