RADFORD, Va. – Junior hurler Kinsey Liscio tossed a four-hit shutout to help propel Western Carolina softball to a 1-0 shutout in game two of the doubleheader at Radford after the Catamounts dropped game one 8-1 Wednesday at the Radford Softball Complex.

Turning Point
Radford scored in every inning but one.
How it Happened
- Radford jumped out to an early 2-0 lead scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.
- Western Carolina cut the Radford lead to one when the Catamounts plated a run in the top of the third. Madison Armstrong led off the inning with a single and with one out Ashlyn Long singled to left center. Armstrong scored from an RBI single by Bailey Huneycutt.
- The Highlanders went on to score two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth.

- Shaina Reed got the start and suffered the loss falling to 7-14 on the year. She went 4.1 innings giving up five runs on six hits and struck out four.
- Kayla Brewer replaced Reed with one out in the fifth. She closed out the game giving up three runs on two hits and striking out two.
- The Catamounts had six hits in the game with two coming from Armstrong.
- Radford had eight hits in the contest.
Western Carolina 1, Radford 0
Turning Point
Western Carolina scored the lone run of the game in the fourth inning and Liscio and the Catamount defense sat down 12 of the final 15 Radford batters to hold on for the win.
How it Happened
- After three scoreless innings, Western Carolina scratched across a run in the top of the fourth inning. Reed drew a one-out walk and came around to score courtesy of a sacrifice fly by Erica Hayes.
- After Western Carolina scored its run in the fourth inning, Radford had just three base runners in final four innings of the game.
- Radford attempted a rally in the bottom of the seventh after a single and walk put Highlanders on first and second. And easy ground out to second ended the Radford comeback attempt.
Inside the Box Score
- Liscio tossed her ninth complete game of the season and her first shutout of the year. She faced 28 batters, allowed four hits, struck out three and improves to 10-9 on the season.
- Western Carolina sat down six straight batters between third and fifth inning and 12 of the final 15 Highlanders.
- The Catamounts had two hits in the game both for extra bases as Armstrong and Myra Twitty each hit doubles in the game.
- Reed scored the lone run in the game.
News & Notes
- Hunter Gibbons had her 13-game on-base streak snapped in game two against Radford. That mark ties her previous season-high from earlier in the season.
- Armstrong's pair of doubles in the doubleheader pushes her career total to 35 giving her sole possession of the second place in the WCU record books. She needs three doubles to take over first place from former Catamount standout Courtney Price who ended her storied career with 37.
- Western Carolina is 2-2 over the last four games winning the nightcap of each of the pair of doubleheaders by one run. WCU defeated Appalachian State in game two 3-2 and shutout Radford in the second game 1-0.
- Liscio is 1-1 in her last two appearances in the circle with a 1.31 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched. She has given up nine hits, two earned runs and only one extra-base hit, a double, in her last two appearances.
- Hayes now has 29 RBI which is a season-high and ranks tied for 17th in the WCU record books for RBI in a season.
- Liscio 10 wins on the season is a career season-high for the right-hander.
- The Catamounts victory over Radford was the fourth victory over the Highlanders in the two team's 11 meetings. The win halts a five-game losing streak.

Western Carolina hosts Furman on Saturday and Sunday in the Catamounts final home Southern Conference series of the season. Seniors Madison Armstrong, Hunter Gibbons, Cheyenne Mathews, and Shaina Reed will be honored prior to the series finale on Sunday.
