CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Junior Regan Ward scored a pair of goals in Western Carolina women's soccer's 2-1 win over High Point Thursday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
Turning Point:
Western Carolina scored a goal in each half and fended off High Point after the Panthers hit a penalty kick late in the second half.

- Ward just missed a hat trick scoring a pair of goals in the match.
- Redshirt freshman Shannon Greenwood had a career-high two assists in the game.
- Freshman goalkeeper Melody Mezzina had six saves in the contest.

- In the 24th minute of the first half, junior Ward took a pass from Greenwood sending a shot from 20-yards out on the right side and sent it above the Panther's goalkeeper and into the right top part of the net.
- At the 58th minute, Ward struck again in a déjà vu moment when she scored the Catamounts' second goal of the game again thanks to an assist by Greenwood.
- High Point avoided the shutout when the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick at 79:34. Ashlyn Kearney sailed it past Catamount goalie Mezzina for the Panther goal.
- The Panthers came within a hair's breathe of tying the match as the shot just grazed the top of the goal at the 87th minute of the match.
- Mezzina earned her third start in goal for the Catamounts improving to 2-1 on the season.
