ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's soccer pushed its winning streak to three-straight with the 2-0 victory at UNC Asheville Wednesday at Greenwood Field. 

Turning Point:

Western Carolina scored two quick goals in the first eight-plus minutes of the match and controlled the match from then on. 

Individual Leaders

• Freshman goalkeeper Melody Mezzina followed up her SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honor with her third-straight start and second consecutive shutout on the season. She improves her seasonal record to 4-1. 
• Emily Zipay scored the first goal of the game for Western Carolina and her first goal of the season. 
• Senior Julia Winter earned an assist on Zipay's goal, her second assist of the season. 
• Jordan Dawsey had the second goal of the match for WCU and it was also her first of the season. 

Inside the Box Score

• Just 1:25 into the match Western Carolina struck with a goal to take the early lead. The Catamounts were awarded a corner kick that was headed to the right side of the net. 
• Winter headed the ball near the crossbar to the waiting fellow senior Zipay who headed the ball into the goal from inside the box. 
• With just over eight minutes into the first half, Western Carolina found the back of the net again. An UNCA defender tipped the ball up, from a cross by a Western Carolina player, to the awaiting Dawsey who took a shot about eight yards out and sent into the far-right side of the net. 
• The Catamounts had 10 shots in the match while UNCA had six. 
• Mezzina picked up four saves in the contest. 

News & Notes

• Western Carolina's 6-2 start to the 2019 season continues to be the best start for the program since 2005 when that team opened the season 7-1. 
• WCU has won five of its last six matches. 
• The Catamounts are now 10-3-3 against UNCA all-time,
• With the goals by Zipay and Dawsey, 10 different Catamounts have scored at least one goal this season. 
• Mezzina has allowed one goal in the last 360 minutes. 
• The Catamounts are now 2-1 on the road earning their first shutout on the road against UNCA.
