Catamounts Host ETSU Saturday as Part of Doubleheader

Concludes three-game home stand

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball completes its three-game home stand Saturday hosting ETSU at 2 p.m. in the front-end of a doubleheader in the Ramsey Center. Men's basketball hosts Mercer at 5 p.m.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and ETSU meet for the 72nd time on Saturday. The Bucs hold a 49-22 advantage over the Catamounts. ETSU has won the last nine meetings. Western Carolina's last win over ETSU came Feb. 7, 2015, when WCU defeated the Bucs 58-56 in Cullowhee. Western Carolina is 17-18 at home against ETSU.
  • Rookie Andrea Martin Ruiz scored a career-high 15 points to tie for the most points for the Catamounts against Chattanooga. Along with her career-high 15 points, Andrea Martin Ruiz also tied her career-high with six made field goals and knotted her career-best in free throws with three.
  • Western Carolina's 123 three-pointers on the season ranks tied for 16th in the Catamount record books for most three-pointers by a team on the season.
  • After sitting out the 2018-19 season due to injury, redshirt junior Lauren LaPlant is finding her stride. She ranks second on the team averaging 10.8 points per game and has hit a season-high 43 three-pointers, ranking third in the SoCon, in 16 games after hitting 32 in 24 games during her sophomore season.
  • Jewel Smalls' 10.6 rebounds per game lead the SoCon and her 170 total rebounds also pace the conference. That 170 rebounds are a season-best for the sophomore and the most by a Catamount since the 2017-18 season when former Catamount Sherae Bonner ripped down 211 on the season.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT ETSU:
  • Just like Western Carolina, ETSU dropped its SoCon opener falling at UNCG 63-47.
  • The Bucs are 5-11 on the year with a record of 2-6 on the road and a two-game losing streak.
  • Micah Scheetz leads the Bucs averaging 15.9 points per game. She is the only active ETSU player averaging in double figures.
