Cullowhee, N.C. – The Western Carolina men's basketball team puts its first-place standing on the line Wednesday as the Catamounts visit Furman for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Timmons Arena.

Matching the program's best start through its first 15 games since the 20-win 2009-10 season, Western Carolina is 12-3 overall and 4-0 in the Southern Conference after a 79-71 home win over Mercer on Saturday.
Mason Faulkner scored a team-best 18 points, going 10-12 at the free throw line with six made free throws in the final minute.
Matt Halvorsen and
Carlos Dotson both finished in double figures with 16 and 12 points respectively.
The Catamounts are the only team in the Southern Conference without a loss at this point in the season and are off to their best start in league games since the 2012-13 season. This year marks just the third 4-0 start to league play since joining the SoCon in 1977 (1995-96, 2012-13).
Furman is 14-4 overall and 4-1 in league play following an 86-73 home loss to UNCG Saturday at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Noah Gurley scored a game-high 27 points with Mike Bothwell and Clay Mounce both adding 13 points.
Wednesday's game is the 76
th all-time meeting between the schools with Furman holding a 46-29 advantage. The Paladins have won seven straight games against WCU and nine of the last 10 matchups.
WCU returns to the Ramsey Center on Saturday, hosting ETSU at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance in order to secure the best seats and avoid lines on game day. WCU students in attendance at Saturday's game who are seated in the Cat Cage student section will receive a free winter hat courtesy of Zaxby's.
