Men’s Basketball Visits Mercer on Wednesday

Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina goes for the season sweep of Mercer on Wednesday as the Catamounts venture to Hawkins Arena in Macon, Ga. to face the Bears at 7 p.m.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) with audio on the Catamount Sports Network.

WCU is 12-5 overall and 4-2 in the Southern Conference following an 85-66 loss to ETSU on Saturday. Mason Faulkner scored a team-best 18 points while Xavier Cork made his first career start and scored a career-best 16 points and tied his career-high with nine rebounds.

Mercer is 8-11 on the season and 2-4 in league games thanks to a 90-75 road win over Samford on Saturday. Djordje Dimitrijevic was named the Geico SoCon Player of the Week earlier today after he averaged 25.5 points per game in a pair of wins over VMI and Samford. The Bears are 5-4 this season in games played at Hawkins Arena.

Wednesday is the 19th all-time meeting between the schools with the series tied at 9-9 following a 79-71 Catamount victory on Jan. 11. In that game, Dimitrijevic scored a career-high 34 points to lead Mercer but the Catamounts used timely 3-pointers and made a season-best 26 free throws to fend off the Bears and snap a three-game losing skid in the series. WCU is looking to halt a three-game series slide in games played in Macon.

WCU returns home on Saturday, hosting Wofford at 7 p.m. The first 400 WCU students will receive a "Black Out" shirt as the Catamounts will break out their black uniforms at home against the Terriers. Fans are encouraged to wear black to the game and purchase tickets in advance in order to secure the best seats and avoid lines on game day. The Catamount Ticket Office and Ramsey Center doors will open at 6 pm.
