Catamounts travel to Furman Saturday

Catamounts looking for SoCon win

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina Catamount women's basketball team close out a three-game road swing traveling to Furman for a 2 p.m. match-up Saturday in Timmons Arena. 
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Furman meet for the 84th time on Saturday. Furman has won the last four meetings and eight of the last 10. The Catamounts last victory over the Paladins came Feb. 2, 2017, with a 75-72 overtime win in Cullowhee. Western Carolina is 19-25 at Furman. Western Carolina's last win at Furman came almost seven years to the day, Jan. 23, 2013, with an 88-83 triple-overtime victory. 
  • Lauren LaPlant became the 12th player in Western Carolina women's basketball history to hit 50 or more three-pointers in a season. She currently ranks tied for eighth in the record books with 54 on the season. She needs 14 three-pointers to break the school record for three-pointers in a season. 
  • The Catamouts' 62 points against Wofford Thursday is the ninth time this season WCU has scored 60 or more points in a game. 
  • Tembre Moates has scored in double figures in the last three games and five of the last six contests. Her 152 points for 2019-2020 is a season-high besting her mark of 132 in her sophomore season. 
  • Western Carolina has two players averaging in double figures: sophomore Jewel Smalls leads the club averaging 13.9 points per game while LaPlant is averaging 11.2.
  • Western Carolina's 143 three-pointers on the season rank seventh in the Catamount record books for most three-pointers by a team on the season. WCU is two treys from taking over sixth place. The program record is 189 set by the 2013-14 club. 
 
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT FURMAN:
  • Furman is coming off a 59-53 loss to UNCG Thursday and suffering through a two-game losing streak. 
  • The Paladins have three players averaging in double-figure scoring led by Le'Jzae Davidson who is posting 15.3 points per game. 
  • Furman has been averaging 66.4 points per game but has been held to under 50 points scoring in the last two games. 
  • The Paladins are 7-2 at home this season and 2-0 in SoCon games this season.
