Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina men's basketball looks to continue its winning ways on Wednesday as the Catamounts welcome in-state rival UNCG to the Ramsey Center for a Southern Conference showdown at 7 p.m.
The first 400 WCU students sitting in the Cat Cage student section will receive a Tumbler courtesy of The Law Office of Nathan Earwood, Criminal Defense. All fans can dine on $1 hot dogs courtesy of Aramark. Wednesday is also the season debut of the Purple Thunder drumline, which will perform at halftime of all remaining men's home contests.
Wednesday's game will be streamed on ESPN3 (cable or satellite subscription required) with audio coverage available on the Catamount Sports Network.
WCU is 13-6 overall and 5-3 in the SoCon after an 81-72 victory over Wofford on Saturday night that snapped a three-game losing skid.
Mason Faulkner scored a game-high 25 points while
Carlos Dotson posted his 10
th double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Onno Steger made a game-best five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points while
Matt Halvorsen also finished in double figures with 12 points.
Sixth this week in the CollegeInsider.com mid-major poll, UNCG is 16-5 overall and 6-2 in league games thanks to a 70-63 road win over Samford on Saturday. Isaiah Miller led the Spartans with 17 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double.
The SoCon's top scoring offense and defense clash in Cullowhee on Wednesday as the Catamounts pace the SoCon with 81.1 points per game. UNCG has the stingiest defense in the league, only surrendering 59.4 points per game. The Spartans force 19.1 turnovers per game, which ranks fifth nationally, and are also among the nation's leaders in steals with 9.8. the Catamounts counter with 10.6 made 3-pointers per game, third nationally.
The Catamounts and Spartans meet for the 55
th time overall Wednesday with WCU leading the all-time series 31-23. UNCG has won seven straight meetings after sweeping the 2018-19 seasonal meetings with a 69-60 triumph in Cullowhee and a 79-76 overtime win in Greensboro.
WCU hits the road on Saturday, traveling to Chattanooga for a 2 p.m. contest against the Mocs.
