Catamounts Host Samford Thursday

First of a two-game home stand

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball is back at home in the Ramsey Center at 7 p.m. Thursday hosting Samford.  
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Samford meet for the 25th time on Thursday. The Bulldogs hold a 20-4 record over the Catamounts. Samford has won 10-straight against WCU dating back to Feb. 8, 2014. In the last meeting in Cullowhee on Jan. 9, 2019 the Bulldogs defeated the Catamounts 75-42. Western Carolina's last victory over Samford came on Jan. 13, 2014 with a 54-50 win. Two of Western Carolina's four wins against Samford have come at home.
  • Samford Head Coach Carley Kuhns played for Western Carolina Head Coach Kiley Hill when he was the Head Coach at Valodosta State from 2004-08. While playing for Hill, she became the first
  • Lady Blazer since 2001 to be named a Kodak/State Farm WBCA Honorable Mention All-American scoring 1,133 points in her career.
  • Lauren LaPlant has connected on a season-high 55 three-pointers becoming just the eighth player in program history to hit 55 or more three-pointers in a season.
  • LaPlant ranks 23rd in the NCAA for most three-pointers in a season (55) while Smalls ranks 22nd in the NCAA for most rebounds (198).
  • Western Carolina has two players averaging in double figures: sophomore Smalls leads the club averaging 13.7 points per game while LaPlant is averaging 11.3.
  • Western Carolina's 145 three-pointers on the season rank seventh in the Catamount record books for most three-pointers by a team on the season. WCU moved into sixth place and needs three to move into fifth. The program record is 189 set by the 2013-14 club. 
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT SAMFORD:
  • Samford is 5-8 away from home this season, 4-8 in true road games and 1-0 in neutral-site contests.Last season, Samford went 3-16 in games played away from the Pete Hanna Center, 3-15 in true road games and 0-1 in neutral-site contests.
  • The Bulldogs have won five of their last six games and are coming off a 68-34 win over ETSU last Saturday.
  • Samford senior point guard Charity Brown currently ranks fifth in the nation in total assists with 124 entering this game. She also ranks eighth nationally in assists per game (6.2)
  • Through the first 20 games of the season, Sarah Myers is second on the team lead in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game, and she leads the team with an average of 6.6 rebounds per game. She has scored in double figures in 18 of the 20 games so far, including a career-high 22 points against Troy and 20 against Western Kentucky.
