Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina returns to Southern Conference play on Saturday as the Catamounts venture to Charleston, S.C. to face The Citadel at McAlister Field House. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) with audio through the Catamount Sports Network.
Western Carolina is 9-3 thanks to a 108-47 triumph over Piedmont on Dec. 28 in the final nonconference game of the 2019-20 season.
Mason Faulkner and
Matt Halvorsen both scored 15 points to lead five Catamounts in double figures.
Carlos Dotson posted his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. WCU is 1-0 in league play as a result of an 87-77 home win over Chattanooga on Dec. 3.
The Citadel is 6-7 overall and 0-2 in conference games following a 69-68 loss at Samford on Wednesday. Kaiden Rice led four Bulldogs in double figures with 17 points. Eddie Davis III narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Saturday's matchup features the top two scoring teams in the Southern Conference with the Bulldogs leading the league with 83.8 points and the Catamounts averaging 81.2 points per game. The Citadel ranks fifth nationally in points per game with WCU ranking 22
nd.
WCU and The Citadel have met 77 times with the Catamounts holding a 41-36 edge in the all-time series. The Catamounts have won eight of the last 10 matchups including the last four.
The Catamounts travel to VMI on Wednesday for a 7 pm tip-off before returning to the Ramsey Center on Jan. 11 to face Mercer at 5 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team.
