Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina men's basketball looks for its third straight road victory on Wednesday as the Catamounts journey to Lexington, Va., for a 7 p.m. matchup against VMI.
The game will be streamed on ESPN3 (paid cable or satellite subscription required) with audio coverage through the Catamount Sports Network.
Western Carolina is 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Conference thanks to an 86-82 win at The Citadel on Saturday afternoon in Charleston. Onno Steger made a career-best eight 3-pointers, six of which came in the first half, as he scored a game-high 28 points. Carlos Dotson posted his sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Dotson scored the go-ahead bucket for WCU with 46 seconds left and made two key free throws down the stretch to secure the victory, its eighth-consecutive on the road at The Citadel.
VMI is 5-11 overall and 0-3 in the league after a 78-75 setback at the hands of Samford on Saturday in Cameron Hall. The Keydets have dropped four straight including home games to Furman and Samford to start 2020. Travis Evee leads the team with 13.4 points per game and is one of three players averaging double figures.
Wednesday's game is the 61st meeting between the schools with WCU holding a 34-26 advantage in the all-time series. VMI took both regular season contests, a 91-83 decision in Lexington and an 83-78 triumph in Cullowhee, as well as a 96-83 win in the first round of the 2019 Ingles Southern Conference Tournament. Bubba Parham, who transferred from VMI to Georgia Tech following the conclusion of the 2018-19 season, averaged 37 points per game in the three games last year. The Catamounts are 14-14 all-time in games played on post at VMI.
Following Wednesday's road trip, Western Carolina begins a stretch of three of its next four games at the Ramsey Center starting with a visit from Mercer on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the women's team.
