LaPlant Named to Preseason All-Southern Conference Team

Catamounts look to release nonconference schedule Thursday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball redshirt senior guard Lauren LaPlant was named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-Southern Conference Team as announced by the league office Wednesday.

It is the first preseason honor for the Asheboro, N.C. native who will be entering her fifth year with the Catamounts. In the preseason coaches and media poll Western Carolina was picked to finish eighth with a split vote for the top spot as Mercer was chosen in the coach's poll and Chattanooga in the media.

LaPlant had a breakout redshirt junior snapping the program record for most three-pointers in a season closing out the year with 80 – ranking second in the SoCon and 33rd in the nation. She played and started in all 30 games ranking second on the team averaging a season-best 12 points per game ranking her 13th in the SoCon. She almost doubled her scoring output from her sophomore season pouring in 361 points in her redshirt junior year. LaPlant scored in double figures 21 times on the season including closing out the year scoring in double figures in the final nine games on the year.

Western Carolina will release its full non-conference schedule on Thursday with all games and times subject to change.
